
Another worker, who suffered injuries in an explosion at the SN Corporation ship-breaking yard at Sitakunda in Chattogram, died on Monday raising the death toll to two in the incident.
The deceased, Khairul Islam, was undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at about 3:00am on Monday.
Confirming the matter, SHNIBPS resident surgeon Tariqul Islam said that Khairul sustained burns to 30 per cent of his body.
‘Conditions of the six other victims remained critical. Four of them have been admitted to intensive care unit and two others to high dependency care unit,’ he said, adding that all of them suffered burns to their airway.
Among the injured, Mohammad Jahangir Alam and Abul Kashem sustained burns to 70 per cent each, Barkatullah sustained 60 per cent burns, Anwar Hossain 25 per cent, Al-Amin 80 per cent, and Habib 45 per cent, he said.
Earlier, Ahmad Ullah, 38, died on Sunday while he was being taken to Dhaka for better treatment.
On Saturday, at least 12 people suffered burn injuries in the explosion. They were initially taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, and later eight of them were referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
