Former professor at the faculty of business studies of the University of Dhaka Farzana Lalarukh was appointed as commissioner of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday.

The Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance issued a circular on the day regarding the appointment.


The circular said that she was appointed for a four-year term, and the order would be effective immediately.

Through her appointment, the capital market regulatory body has become a full commission.

The commission is comprised of four commissioners and a chairperson.

The commission has an obligation to conduct a meeting before taking any policy decisions.

Before this, former senior district and session judge Md Ali Akbar was appointed as commissioner of the BSEC on August 28.

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government amid a mass uprising on August 5, Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam resigned as chairman on August 11 and Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed and Rumana Islam resigned as commissioners of the BSEC on August 12.

Khondoker Rashed Maqsood was appointed as chairman of the BSEC on August 18.

Md Mohsin Chowdhury and and ATM Tariquzzaman are the two others commissioners of the stock market regulatory body.
