Politicians, academics and professionals on Saturday at a view-exchange programme said that political parties should give required time to Professor Muhammad Yunus-led interim government of Bangladesh to hold a free, fair and credible general election.

The Reform Party organised the programme at the National Press Club in the capital, which was presided over by the party鈥檚 executive convener Ameen Ahmed Afsary.


The Noitik Party chairman, AMSA Amin, said that before holding a credible general election, the interim government needed reforms of the constitution and also the Election Commission.

So, the political parties should give the interim government required time, he added, mentioning that the spirit of the student movement must be upheld and a corruption-free society must be established.

Lawyer Mohsin Rashid said that without reforms of the constitution and Election Commission, it would not be possible to hold a credible general election.

Ameen Ahmed Afsary read the keynote at the programme.

He placed 10-point demands for the successful transition of democratic rule, including making a complete list of the martyrs in the student movement, Abu Sayed should honoured as Birshrestha, renaming Jamuna Bridge as Abu Sayed bridge, renaming water of WASA as Mugdho water according to the name of martyr Mugdha.

Enacting a law banning police firing on the people also demanded at the programme.聽
