Leaders of Students Movement Against Discrimination on Monday announced to withdraw themselves from controlling traffic movements, monitoring markets, and guarding various government establishments in Rajshahi.

They came up with the announcement while addressing a press conference at Rajshahi University on Monday afternoon.

Golam Kibria Mohammad Meshkat Chowdhury, one of the RU coordinators of the movement, said that they had to take the decision as many identifying themselves as coordinators and co-coordinators were trying to create chaos in the city and question their movement through various illegal efforts including demanding extortion from the government officials and people.

He said that except the seventeen members RU coordinator council, they did not have any committee or council, or coordinator and co-coordinators in both the Rajshahi city and the district.

‘Following the revolution, the interim government has already sworn in and is doing its work. Police and civil administrations are back to their duties. So, we urge all to resist and hand over those who will attempt to take any opportunities and benefits, and exercise power in the name of the coordinators or co-coordinators, to the police and civil administrations,’ he added.

Meshkat Chowdhury said that they, however, would continue their regular movement to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty, and against all kinds of oppressions.

In a reply, Meshkat Chowdhury said that they did not want any party-based blind politics on the campus. ‘Once the top officials including a vice-chancellor are appointed, we will make sure that the university Central Student’s Council is made active so that student leaders can come out,’ he added.

Another coordinator Mehdi Sajib said that they were calling on the authorities concerned to bring back the administrative structure by quickly appointing a vice-chancellor at the university.

‘Besides, we will also discuss with the faculty deans and department chairs with the request of resuming the academic activities soon,’ he added.
