A businessman on Saturday sought government鈥檚 intervention in evicting illegal grabbers and reopening Ajax Jute Mills Limited in Khulna.
The businessman, Mohammad Kawsar Zaman Babla, made the demand in a press conference at Khulna Press Club in Khulna city.
Kawsar said that he was the chairman and chief executive of Ajax Jute Mills Limited and that the mill was closed in 2014 and a local influential group, with the support of local Awami League leaders, had occupied the mill on 81 acres of land at Mirerdanga under Daulatpur in Khulna in 2015.
Babla said that the mill was occupied by the grabbers with the support of AL leaders as he contested in the Ranpur city corporation elections in 2012 and 2017 as a BNP candidate.
He also said that he had informed home ministry, Khulna police commissioner and the local authorities in 2019 but got no solution so far.
He alleged that the grabbers had been making money selling fertiliser and renting some of the occupied land to other parties.
He appealed to the chief adviser to take necessary steps to investigate into the matter, bring the people responsible to book and help him reopen the mill.
