The authority decided to open Chattogram Custom House today for the convenience of importers and exporters.
This was disclosed in an office order signed by deputy commissioner Imam Ghazzali on behalf of the Chattogram customs commissioner who instructed to keep the office open on August 17 and keep the official activities running.
Due to the recent political unrest, there has been a standstill in various activities related to customs clearance at CCH, sources said.
Due to the suspension of customs clearance for several days, a large number of containers have accumulated inside the port. Similarly, piles of export goods accumulated in private depots. Customs is handling this situation by increasing the speed of work.
General secretary of Chattogram Customs Agent Association Kazi Mahmud Imam Bilu said that though CCH would open on Saturday, banks were not open.
CCH sources said that all types of duties had to be deposited in the bank. Only the documentation work is done in the customs house.
