
After around a month, metro rail services are scheduled to resume on August 17.
The trains, however, will not stop at the damaged Mirpur 10 and Kazipara stations.
The decision made was taken and announced at a meeting of the Advisory Council of the interim government held at the state guest house Jamuna on Sunday, said a message delivered by the government spokesperson and one of the advisors Syeda Rizwana Hasan.
Earlier, the authorities closed down metro rail services for an indefinite period since July 20 amid the student protests.
On July 19, Mirpur 10 and Kazipra stations were being vandalised by some people during the protests.
Vending machines, ticket counters, offices, police control rooms, computers, television screens and close circuit cameras were vandalised inside these stations which cost an estimated Tk 350 crore, according to the Road Transport and Highways Division officials.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited-the implementing agency of the metro rail- and managing director MAN Siddique said on July 20 that it would take one year to repair these two stations.Â
Beforehand, metro rail services in Dhaka were shortened by four hours on July 18 stopping services at 5:30pm for the sake of public safety.
Usually, metro rail services are available till 9:30pm.
The 20.1-kilometre-long Mass Rapid Transit Line–6 project, popularly known as the metro rail, was inaugurated on the 11.73-kilometre-long Uttara–Agargaon section on December 28, 2022.
Services of the country’s first-ever electricity-powered elevated and air-conditioned rail system from Agargaon to Motijheel were inaugurated in November 2023.
