Bangladesh Bank governor Abdur Rouf Talukder resigned from his post on Friday, days after the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government.

Rouf Talukder submitted his resignation letter to the Ministry of Finance on the day, citing personal problems.

He resigned from his post a couple of days after BB officials demanded his resignation.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5 and fled to India, ending her 15-year rule amid an unprecedented student-led mass uprising against her authoritarian regime.

Since then, Rouf Talukder did not come to office, BB officials said.

On August 8, a 17-member interim government headed by Nobel laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus was formed.

On July 12, 2022, Rouf Talukder joined as the governor of Bangladesh Bank for a term of four years.

He faced severe controversies over two years due to his failure in controlling inflation, irregularities, mismanagement, and default loans in the banking sector.

He allegedly also provided various facilities to some influential business groups and political individuals.

The financial sector has been going through serious trouble allegedly due to his wrong policies and excessive facilities to a segment of people.

A group of aggrieved Bangladesh Bank officials staged a demonstration in front of the office premises on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of the six high-ups who were appointed on contractual basis.

Following that, deputy governor Sayedur Rahman resigned from his post by submitting the resignation letter to the human resources department, while other deputy governors had left the office instantly.
