Sharif Uddin, a terminated deputy assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission, has applied for reinstatement.

He submitted his application to the ACC secretary Khorshed Yasmeen on Wednesday, highlighting his career achievements just days after the fall of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India on Monday amid a student-led mass uprising that ended her 15-year rule.

‘I am a victim of discrimination and injustice. I want my job back,’ Sharif stated.

He noted that he served as deputy assistant director of the ACC for seven years and four months, from 2014 to 2022, during which he recommended charge sheets in several high-profile cases involving powerful figures, including members of the Awami League-led government.

‘I was removed from my position due to pressure from former senior secretary Helal Uddin Ahmad for obstructing investigations into corruption,’ Sharif claimed.

‘I was unjustly dismissed on February 16, 2022, without any reason, based on false information.’

On February 27, 2022, he applied for reinstatement, but his application was not considered by the commission.

Sharif mentioned that he had filed more than 50 cases and submitted over 20 charge sheets as a junior officer, yet fell victim to the injustices of bureaucrats and leaders within the Awami League government.

During his tenure, Sharif conducted several anti-corruption operations, including investigations into corruption in land acquisition worth Tk 3.5 lakh crore across 72 projects in Cox’s Bazar, as well as cases involving NID and passport fraud by some Rohingyas, and irregularities in Karnaphuli Gas.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission Service Association issued a statement on Wednesday, outlining five demands for restructuring of the commission.

The demands include all officers and employees from various government departments currently working at the ACC should be returned to their respective organisations within the next three working days, the ACC’s complaint scrutiny committee should be reconstituted with honest and qualified officers within the next five days, and the commission should ensure promotions to all deserving officers, who were victims of discrimination, filling vacant posts within the next seven days.
