Two Dhaka courts on Friday granted bail to 42 Higher Secondary Certificate examinees who were arrested in connection with cases filed on charges of violence and vandalism during the quota reform movement.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Rashidul Alam granted bail to 37 students who were arrested in connection with the cases filed with different police stations in the Dhaka city.


Dhaka senior judicial magistrate M Mustafizur Rahman granted bail to five HSC examinees in cases filed with the Savar,  Keraniganj, and Ashulia police stations.

Besides, six more HSC examinees also got bail from a court in Satkhira.

The lawyers submitted petitions along with documents of examinations seeking bail for the students in 34 cases filed with different police stations centring the ongoing quota reform movement.

A law ministry press release said that a total of 48 HSC candidates got bail from two courts in Dhaka and a Satkhira court  on Friday despite holiday following the special initiative of law minister Anisul Huq.

The students include Md Ali Hossain, Md Ismail Talukder, Imran Hossain, Md Abdul Quader, Md Nafiz, Yamin Sheikh, Asif Khan, Abdus Samad, Elahi Bakhs, Samir Hossain, Tanzil Hasan, Alauddin, Apu, Md Faisal Ahmed, Samiul Alam, Shakhawat Hossain, Roni Sheikh, Imran Ahmed Afler, Md Samrat Khalifa, Rashidul Islam Toha, Md Masud Parvez, Md Asif, Md Al Amin, Md Shakil Ahmed, Md Jaber Hossain, Raihan, Ruhul Amin, Rahat Obaidullah, Zaki Tahsin, Tuhin, Md Nahid Ahmed, Masud Rana, Md Shariful Islam, Shihab Hossain, Tasrif Swapno, Chowad ur Rahman, Nasir Hossain, Sabbir Hossain, Fardin Islam, Khalid Hasan, Imon Howlader, and Helal.

Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Education Ministry on Thursday issued notices seeking information, saying that they will give legal assistance if any of those arrested in the violent incidents are ongoing HSC exam candidates.

‘If they apply for bail along with the exam admit card and relevant documents, the government will provide legal assistance to release them on bail,’ said the ministries.

The HSC and equivalent exams have been postponed till August 11 due to the situation surrounding the quota reform protests.
