A man died of a heart attack a few minutes after the police arrested his son on Tuesday.
The deceased, Samsul Alom Mamun, 52, died at his house on Kalu Hazi road of Lakshmipur municipality.聽
Samsul Alom鈥檚 son Saif Mohammad Ali, a Lakshmipur Government College student, was arrested without a warrant or any formal charges, and subsequently sent to jail in connection with a sabotage case and explosives laws, said lawyer Mohsin Kabir Murad, who represented Saif in court.聽
Saif鈥檚 father tried to prevent the police from taking his son, but was unsuccessful. Shortly after the police took Saif into custody, his father suffered the heart attack and passed away, said the lawyer.聽
The court granted Saif bail until 5:00 pm on Tuesday so that he could attend his father鈥檚 funeral, he added.
Saif鈥檚 mother, Tahmina Akter, said that Saif was not involved in politics and had no cases against him.
She demanded a fair investigation and the release of her son.
Lakshmipur Sadar police station officer-in-charge Md Yasin Faruk said that Saif and four others were arrested in connection with the case, mentioning that they would continue drive.
