Six students of the Bangladesh National Economics Olympiad are competing in International Economics Olympiad 2024 under way in Hong Kong.

Starting on Monday, the event will end on July 31, said a press release, adding that 53 countries and territories were participating in the event.


The BNEO team comprises Zahia Zakaria from Sunnydale, Kazi Rafsan Mahboob from Sir John Wilson School, Dipyoman Das from American Standard International School, Shawhardo Shopan from Mastermind, and Khondker Sahaf Bin Asif from Cephalon International School as participants and Mohammad Ridwan Nubayer Adeeb from Singapore School Kinderland as an observer.聽

Led by team leaders Al Amin Parvez, president of the executive committee of the BNEO, and its head of organising Ashikur Rahman, the BNEO team is supported by Bank Asia PLC, and sponsored by Mutual Trust Bank PLC, Berger Paints Bangladesh, and BRAC Bank PLC.

Bangladesh National Economics Olympiad has been working with the mission to spread financial literacy and a vision to become a part of the national development strategy of the Government of Bangladesh. Till date, Bangladesh team obtained 35 medals from 9 international competitions in International Economics Olympiad and World Economics Cup.

Freedom fighter and economist Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, chairman of the National Committee of the Bangladesh Economics Olympiad, envisions a significant contribution from the Olympiad in promoting economic education and financial literacy across the country.
