
Clashes between police, students and Awami League ruling party men were underway on Thursday at places in the capital, including Rampura, Merul Badda, Uttara, Dhanmondi-27 and Mirpur.
Chase, counter-chase continued, police threw bricks and brick-bats while law enforcers fired sound grenades, tear gas and rubber bullet at places.
Police dispersed protesting students by firing sound grenades in front of the Domino's Pizza on Satmasjid road in Dhanmondi area.
Clashes with protesting students and ruling AL鈥檚 student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists took place in front of Rapa Plaza at Dhanmondi-27.
Ruling party men were seen taken position with sticks and bamboos in front of the AL president Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 political office in the capital鈥檚 Dhanmondi area.
Shops and shopping malls, including New Market, Kalabagan, Sukrabad, Elephant Road, Satmasjid Road and Panthapath were seen closed due to the complete shutdown.
Monju Alam, a resident in Uttara said that protesting students and police locked in a clash in house building area at about 11:00am.
He said that the clash was continued.
Rapid Action Battalion and students clash were underway at Rajlakshmi in the Uttara area.
Asked about the clashes, Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional commissioner for crime and operations KM Mahid Uddin hung the phone.
