Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Monday inaugurated a 10-storey boys hostel of Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Center, said a press release.

The building was constructed under the BITAC’s ‘self-employment and poverty alleviation’ project to expand its activities with emphasis on women in manual technical training. 


The BITAC director general Parimal Singha presided over the ceremony while senior secretary of the industries ministry Zakia Sultana was present as as a special guest. 

Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said that the hostel had all kinds of modern facilities, including accommodation for 210 students.

As a result of the construction of this hostel, 850 students have the opportunity to receive training with accommodation facilities,’ he said, adding that the construction of women’s hostels in Dhaka, Bogura, Khulna and Chattogram centers of BITAC had created an opportunity for 2,000 women to receive training with accommodation facilities annually. 

He further said that the BITAC had set an example in providing direct employment and creating new SME entrepreneurs through hands-on technical training under the two schemes of numerous unemployed youths and young women in the remote areas of the country.

Zakia Sultana said that the BITACcontribution to the development and prosperity of the country’s industrial sector was undeniable.

Parimal Singha said that the importance of technical education was immense in meeting the challenge of building a developed country

by 2041, and through this project, a huge opportunity had been created for women to create self-employment and alleviate poverty.
