At least five people, including a child, were killed in road accidents in Lakshmipur, Dinajpur and Naogaon districts on Monday.

An elderly person and his granddaughter were killed after being hit by a bus while crossing a road in Lakshmipur Sadar on Monday morning, reported the United News of Bangladesh.


The deceased, Nasir Uddin, 65, and his granddaughter, Mim Akter, 4, were residents of Bhola.

The police said that the victims got on a bus from Majhu Chowdhury Haat to go to Chattogram in the morning.

As the bus stopped at a station to refill fuel, Nasir and her granddaughter got off the bus.聽

While crossing Dhaka-Lakshmipur regional road, another bus ran over them, leaving the child dead on the spot.

Nasir was taken to the Sadar hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, said the hospital鈥檚 Dr Aurup Pal, adding that the bodies were sent to the hospital morgue.

In another accident, a mango trader was killed on the Dinajpur-Bochaganj regional road in the Dherapatia area under Biral in Dinajpur, reported the UNB.

The deceased, Tarek, 35, was a resident of Sujanagar of Pabna.聽

While going with a mango-laden truck, its driver lost control over the steering and hit a roadside tree in the area, leaving Tarek dead on the spot, said Biral police station officer-in-charge Golam Mawla.

The body was handed over to the family members without a post-mortem, as there was no objection from the family of the victim, the OC added.

Two cattle traders were killed and five others injured when their human hauler turned turtle and fell into a roadside ditch in the Sangsail Bridge area under Niamatpur in Naogaon, reported the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.

The deceased were, Sharif Uddin, 62, of Damkura village, and Shamim Reja, 28, of Bangapara village of the upazila.

Niamatpur police station officer-in-charge Al Mahmud said that they were heading towards a market to purchase cattle.

On the way, the vehicle fell into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control, leaving both of them dead on the spot.

Police recovered the bodies and sent those to the Upazila Health Complex morgue, the OC added.
