Bangladesh Cricket Board directors will be holding a meeting today to discuss the national team’s performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, among other issues.

BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed the media on Monday that several matters will be discussed in the meeting, including the Sheikh Hasina Stadium project.

‘We will talk about the routine matters in this meeting. There will be discussions about the Sheikh Hasina stadium and the procedure of international appointments,’ he said.

‘Besides this, talking about the national team’s performance after a major event is also a routine discussion. Also, there will be conversations regarding financial, game development, grounds, and facilities matters.’

The national team returned from the West Indies on Friday after crashing out of the Super Eight stage as they failed to win their final match against Afghanistan, against whom they have a series scheduled in the Future Tours Programme, which is still in limbo over scheduling issues.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board had asked to play the series in India this month, which BCB refused.

Nizamuddin said that they were in communication with the Afghan board to reschedule the series.

‘We had an FTP commitment with Afghanistan for two Tests, three one-day internationals, and three Twenty20 internationals. We are working on it with them. A final decision has not been reached yet. However, we are trying to reschedule it to a suitable time,’ he said.

Another issue for BCB in the coming months will be the Bangladesh Premier League, as the three-year contract handed to the franchises expired following the last edition and will have to be renewed.

The BCB CEO informed that most of the existing franchises have expressed their interest in continuing in the tournament, and they will announce the dates once they have confirmation.

‘We have already talked to the existing franchises, and most of them have confirmed that they will play. A couple of teams haven’t informed us yet. Once we get to know that, we will go ahead with our plans,’ Nizamuddin told the media.

There might be more than seven teams in the 2025 edition of the tournament, as per BCB director and BPL governing council chairman Sheikh Sohel.

‘We are discussing with the existing teams. Most of them are likely to be there. There might be one or more teams,’ he told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
