The Bangladesh Football Federation awarded councillorship to four clubs that finished in the top four of the last edition of the Women’s Football League and approved a budget of over Tk 54 crore with a deficit of over Tk 22 crore for the 2024-2025 fiscal during its Annual General Meeting at a city hotel on Saturday.
The four teams are Nasrin Sporting Club, ARB College Sporting Club, Army Football Club, and Suddopuskorini Jubo Sporting Club. The AGM was attended by 132 out of 142 delegates.
The BFF extended the councillorships despite the world football governing body FIFA’s instruction in January 2023 to reduce the number of BFF councillors and trim the executive committee to 12 to 14 from the existing 21-member.
‘Councilorship of four clubs from the women’s football league was approved today [Saturday],’ BFF president Kazi Salahuddin told reporters at a post-congress press conference.
When asked about FIFA’s instruction to reduce the number of BFF councillors and the executive committee, Salahuddin replied, ‘FIFA instructed us [to reduce the number]. And [in response], we said FIFA should do it if reductions are required.’
‘It is not possible to increase or decrease without a general meeting. It was decided in the general meeting. Now we will inform it to FIFA.’
The BFF AGM was held after around a two-year break, as the previous AGM was held on October 29, 2022.
