The government has suspended Gazipur Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Jisanul Haque for sharing former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia’s personal data with outsiders.

The public security division under the home ministry issued an order in this regard on Sunday.

The order said that Jishan was suspended for violating government service rules and breaching discipline.

It was learnt that on June 19, police headquarters’  additional deputy inspector general of police Mohammad Anwar Hossain sent a letter to the public security division secretary recommending the suspension of Jisanul for his involvement in sharing the personal data of former DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia beyond any government purpose.

A GMP investigation found that Jisanul had taken information about Asaduzzaman Mia from a sub-inspector through the messaging platform WhatsApp, and it was not used for government purposes.

The suspension order for Jisanul came a day after Asaduzzaman Mia’s return from Singapore on Saturday.

‘I came to Dhaka from Singapore on Saturday and was doing my regular activities. Many media outlets have reported that I fled away, which is untrue,’ Asaduzzaman Mia told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Monday over the phone.

Asked how he would defend the corruption allegations against him, Asaduzzaman Mia said that he would conduct all his activities ‘as per the rules and regulations of the soil.’

He claimed that he went to Singapore on June 12 to seek treatment.

Several media outlets reported that Asaduzzaman Mia had accumulated wealth, including flats, plots, and lands beyond his income. There were also reports of his family accumulating illegal wealth in various parts of the country.

According to available documents, Asaduzzaman Mia’s daughter took advantage of legalising undisclosed money by investing in the real estate sector, while his wife hid information to get a Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha plot.

An official of the National Board of Revenue confirmed to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· last week that Asaduzzaman Mia’s daughter, Ayesha Siddika, legalised Tk 1.72 crore by purchasing a flat in 2020.

A Rajuk official confirmed that his wife, Afroza Zaman, got a 7-katha plot under a special provision by violating the rule.

The official of the city development body said that a person who has a plot in the Rajuk area is not eligible to get a plot from Rajuk, but Afroza Zaman hid the information.

According to the official, she has several flats and plots in Dhaka.

The allegation of Asaduzzaman’s accumulation of illegal wealth came at a time when his former boss and retired inspector general of police, Benazir Ahmed, had been facing an investigation by the ACC over the same allegations.
