Police on Thursday morning recovered the bodies of a couple with marks of injuries from sharp weapons at their West Momenbagh residence at Konapara in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
The deceased are Shafiqur Rahman, 60, a former driver of Janata Bank Limited, and his wife Farida Yesmin, 50.
Police said that they had recovered the body of Shafiqur in the garage of the four-storey building and his wife’s body from the second floor of the building.
They said that the couple had constructed the building in 1996 and recently renovated the fourth floor.
The victims used to live on the second floor of the building, according to police.
Confirming the matter to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·, Jatrabari police station officer-in-charge Abul Hasan said they primarily assumed that the murder incident had taken place in the morning.
Local people informed the police by calling the National Emergency Helpline 999 at about 7:00am.
He said that they were investigating whether it was a planned murder or robbery.
The OC added that the body was kept at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Wari Division deputy commissioner Iqbal Hossain told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the incident might have been a planned murder as no valuables went missing from the house.
The belongings were found in a haphazard condition, he said.
‘It might be the outcome of a feud over sharing properties either in Dhaka or in their hometown of Feni,’ the DC suspected.
The couple’s son, Emon, is a sub-inspector at the Special Branch of Police.
The son and daughter-in-law used to live with the couple in the house.
They said that Emon went to his paternal grandfather’s house in Feni while his wife went to her parent’s house on Wednesday night.
The victim’s son, Emon, filed a murder case with the Jatrabari police station without naming any accused.
