Government, private offices, banks, financial institutions and courts resumed operations with limited presence of staff on Wednesday after a three-day vacation for Eid-ul-Azha.

The officials and employees returning to work were seen busy exchanging Eid greetings.

However, a festive mood still prevails as many holidaymakers have yet to return to the capital.

A limited number of transports and people were seen on roads compared to usual working days. Many shops were found shut.

Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims, was celebrated in the country on Monday.

The Eid holidays started on June 16 and continued till June 18, while government officers and employees enjoyed their vacation from June 14.

Offices resumed on Wednesday following new timing as the government on June 3 rearranged the office timing from 9:00am to 5:00pm for government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions of the country.

The decision for the new office hours was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by prime minister Sheikh Hasina at her office in the city.

The previous office hours from 9:00am to 4:00pm were effective from November 15, 2022, to save power and energy by changing the usual office time from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
