A pedestrian was killed and four other people were injured as four vehicles collided on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Bhitikandi Bus Stand area under Gazaria in Munshiganj on Sunday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The injured are Shahdat Hossain, 34, motorcyclist, Belal Hossain, 40, Shakil Dewan, 38, and Shilpi Akhter, 35.
Eyewitnesses said that the accident occurred at about 12:30pm when the pedestrian was crossing the road and a high-speed motorcycle ran over the pedestrian while trying to save him.
At that time, a private car hit the motorcycle from behind and collided with two buses, leaving five people injured.
The injured were sent to Gazaria Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctor declared the pedestrian dead.
The accident caused traffic congestion on one side of the highway.
Gazaria Bhaberchar Highway Police Outpost in-charge Md Humayun Kabir said that the body of the deceased was kept at Gazaria Upazila Health Complex.
Traffic movement became normal after the vehicles were removed from the road within a few minutes, he said.
