
Shafi Ahmed, former member of the Liberation War affairs sub-committee of the Awami League and former general secretary of the JSD Chhatra League central committee, was laid to eternal rest at Netrakona municipality graveyard on Wednesday.
The body of Shafi Ahmed was taken to central Shahid Minar at Dhaka on Tuesday noon where leaders and workers of the Awami League, the JSD and the Workers Party and different political parties and socio-cultural organisations paid their last respects to him placing floral wreaths on his coffin.
The body reached Netrakona town through a freezing ambulance from Dhaka in the afternoon of the day.
Then it was taken to the local Muktarpara ground to facilitate people from all walks of life to pay homage to him for the last time.
A large number of local people including political leaders, public representatives, freedom fighters and civil society members paid their last respects to him placing floral wreaths on his coffin.
The first namaz-e-janaza of the deceased was held at Uttara, Dhaka at 10:45pm on Monday, the second namaz-e-janaza was held on Dhaka University central mosque premises at 11:00am on Tuesday and the third namaz-e-janaza was held at local Muktarpara ground after Maghrib prayers on the day and the fourth namaz-e-janaza was held on
Madan upazila parishad premises at 10:00am on Wednesday.
Shafi Ahmed, 62, breathed his last Monday evening following a heart attack at his residence in Uttara, Dhaka.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Shafi Ahmed was a student of Dhaka University and participated in the mass movement against the former dictator鈥檚 government in 1990.
