Leaders of opposition political parties on Sunday at a commemoration meeting in Dhaka said that the Awami League government was trying to remain in power without people鈥檚 mandate misusing the state machinery.
The Ganosamhati Andolan, a partner of the Ganatantra Mancha organised the meeting at the National Press Club to mark the seventh anniversary of death of party鈥檚 first executive coordinator Abdus Salam where chief coordinator of the party, Zonayed Saki, chaired.
Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that the people of the country rejected the Awami League government boycotting the general election on January 7.
But they are trying to remain in power misusing the state machinery and destroying the economy of the country, Manna said.
Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq called on opposition political parties to a wage movement against the government to compel it to resign from power.
Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki said that the Awami League government was trying to remain in power satisfying the Modi government of India.
He asked prime minister Sheikh Hasina to give explanation as to who were trying to form a Christian state comprising Myanmar and part of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The Ganatantra Mancha is trying to form a welfare state curtailing power of the prime minster given by the present parliament, Saki said.
Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal general secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan said that the Awami League had introduced fascist rule in the country capturing democratic rights of the people.
Rastra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator Hasnat Quaiyum said that Abdus Salam wanted to reform the country鈥檚 constitution to make it democratic.
Gono Forum faction general secretary Subrata Chowdhury said that the Awami League was trying to continue its misrule seizing the voting rights of the people.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmud Shapon said that the people of the country were eagerly waiting not to see the Awami League in power any more.
Ganosamhati executive coordinator Abul Hassan Rubel said that his party would continue its movements to make the constitution democratic.
Jatiya Mukti Council secretary Faiezul Haikm said that they also sought an end to Awami misrule immediately.
Ganosamhati central leader MonirUddinPappu conducted the programme.
Abdus Salam died in a Dhaka Hospital on May 26 at the age 72, suffering from kidney diseases.
