Leaders of Samajtantrik Mahila Forum on Thursday at a protest rally in Dhaka demanded recognition and payment for housework done by women in the country.

The organisation held a rally in front of the National Press Club where its president Shampa Basu said that women did most housework in the country but they received no recognition or payment.


She demanded the allocation of funds for the welfare of women involved in housework in the budget for fiscal year 2024-25.

General secretary of the organisation Dilruba Nuri, central leaders Monisha Chakrobarty, Rukhsana Afroz Asha and others spoke at the rally, which was followed by a procession that paraded different city roads.

Later, representatives of the organisation handed over a memorandum to the finance minister demanding the allocation of funds for the welfare of women involved in housework in the forthcoming budget.
