The Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday filed a case against former assistant tax commissioner Shyamal Krishna Das on charges of amassing wealth worth Tk 1.85 crore beyond known sources of his income.

The commission鈥檚 assistant director, Mahbub Morshad, filed the case with its integrated district office in Dhaka-1 against Shyamal Krishna Das, who was the former assistant tax commissioner in Mymensingh Taxes Zone, said ACC deputy director Aktarul Islam.


According to the case statement, on April 4, 2021, Shyamal Krishna Das submitted his wealth statement to the commission following a notice from the ACC.

He showed his movable and immovable assets worth Tk 2.73 crore in the wealth statement.

Scrutinising his wealth statement and documents, the ACC found his legal sources of income against his wealth worth Tk 1.19 crore.

But the commission did not find legal sources of income of his remaining wealth worth Tk 1.85 crore during the inquiry.

His wealth includes a six-storey building on 3.96 decimal of land in the Sabujbagh area of Dhaka, a Tk 71.90 lakh investment in the share market, and saving certificates worth Tk 50 lakh.

The tax official amassed the wealth between 2007 and 2021, according to the case statement.
