Brahmanbaria-based young visual artist Diptha Modak has displayed his watercolour paintings in his first solo exhibition titled ‘Introspection’ under way at Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Bhasha Chattar in Brahmanbaria city.
The artist has displayed his recent paintings depicting the natural diversity in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and India in the seven-day outdoor exhibition, which began on Sunday marking Mother’s Day.
He has displayed thirty watercolour paintings, which were created when he visited the countries, at the event.
‘I was born and raised in Brahmanbaria. Therefore, I organised my first solo art exhibition here. I have previously participated in a few group art exhibitions in Dhaka,’ said Diptha Modak, who studied fine arts at the University of Development Alternative.
‘After completing BFA, I have been practising art in Brahmanbaria. I also work with child artists of Shishu Natyam and run an art school for children,’ he added.
‘Although people outside Dhaka appreciate art, not many galleries can be found at the district level. I am happy because many local people have visited my exhibition,’ added Diptha, who has set up a temporary gallery in the open space of Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Bhasha Chattar.
‘We need to set an example for the future generation. People are now talking about my artworks. I also managed to sell a few of my works on the first day of the exhibition,’ ended Diptha, who thinks that the government should patronise art practice at the district level otherwise cultural activities would not flourish.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the dean of fine arts faculty of Jagannath University Rashid Amin.
The superintendent of police of Brahmanbaria Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain was present as chief guest and Ronger Gari director artist Mintu Dey was present as special guest, among others, at the inaugural ceremony.
The exhibition will end on May 17.
