The police on Saturday arrested two people, including a contractor, in a case for threatening an executive engineer of the public works department.
The arrested are 鈥� Roknuzzaman Tushar, a contractor and residence of Chak Govinda of Pabna municipal area and Mohammad Akash of Kalachandpara in Pabna town.
They were arrested at different places in Pabna town Saturday morning, police said.
On Wednesday, a group of youths, including two contractors, allegedly threatened to kill the executive engineer of Pabna PWD, after not getting various contract works illegally.
According to the case statement, Pabna PWD engineer and other officials were attending a meeting at the room of the supervising engineer of Pabna PWD Circle. At about 1.00pm, 14-15 people, led by two contractors Rukuzzaman Tushar and Rajib Hasan Rajib, entered the room and interrogated the executive engineer Mostafizur Rahman about various contractual works and demanded those illegally.
They tried to abuse and beat up the executive engineer, when he refused to work illegally. At that time, other PWD officials stopped them. Then they threatened to kill the officials and left the scene. Later, video footage of the incident had gone viral on social media.
On Friday night, supervising engineer Anwarul Azim of Pabna PWD filed a written complaint with Pabna police station.
Officer-in-charge of Pabna police station Roshan Ali said that the complaint was registered as a case after an investigation.
Immediately after filing the case, contractor Tushar and Akash were arrested. The operation was continuing to nab the other accused, said the OC.
