A brief spell of heavy rain left some roads in the port city of Chattogram underwater on Monday afternoon.

The three hours of downpour began around 3:00pm. Although it brought respite for residents, roads of the port city in Khulshi, Kazir Dewri and Agrabad areas witnessed waterlogging indicating a poor drainage system.

Md Zahirul Islam, duty forecasting officer at Patenga Met Office, said that 98 mm of rainfall was recorded from 3:00pm to 6:00pm on Monday afternoon and 129 mm of rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours.

Chattogram district would experience rain throughout the week, he added.

He also said that ports had been asked to hoist local cautionary signal 2 and the port city would likely witness heavy downpours and thunderstorms.
