At least five people were killed and 12 others injured in road accidents in Naogaon, Habiganj, Jamalpur and Chandpur on Monday.聽聽
A 9-year old boy was killed as a passenger bus crushed him in Mahadebpur upazila of Naogaon, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.
The deceased was identified as Badhon, a resident of Gotgori Khudiadanga village of the upazila.
Nowhata police camp sub-inspector Akbor Ali said that the accident occurred at Nowhata intersection on the Naogaon-Rajshahi highway when Badhon was crossing the road.
The BSS reported that an elderly man was killed and eight others were injured in a head-on collision between a private car and a CNG-run auto rickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet old highway in Notun Bazar area of Bahubal upazila of Habiganj.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Sobhan, 70, a resident of Sughar village in Sadar upazila.
The accident occurred when Abdus Sobhan and his family members were going to Srimangal by the CNG-run auto rickshaw, said Bahubal model police station officer-in-charge Moshiur Rahman.
Police seized the vehicles but the driver of the private car fled the scene, the OC added.
The injured were taken to Moulvibazar Sadar hospital and Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital.
In another accident, a man and his son were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a CNG-run auto rickshaw on the Chandpur-Cumilla regional road in Goghra area of Hajiganj upazila in Chandpur, the BSS reported.
The deceased were identified as Abu Taher Molla, 55 and his son Mamun Molla, 25, residents of Molla Bari of Gandabyapur union of the district.
Hajiganj police station OC Abdur Rashid said that the vehicles were seized but driver of the pickup van managed to flee the scene.
A truck driver was killed as his vehicle overturned in Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur, the BSS reported.聽
The deceased was identified as Saidur Rahman, 40, of Manikganj鈥檚 Gopalganj village.
Local police station SI Shamim Al Mamun said that the driver died on the spot after being crushed with a tree.
Truck helper Enamul Haque, 18, was also injured in the accident.
