Young classical musicians from Bangladesh and West Bengal, India paid tribute to Indian sarod player Allauddin Khan performing at a programme held at Chhayanaut Shangskriti-Bhavan, Dhanmondi in the capital on Wednesday.

The event titled ‘A Legacy of Maihar Senia Gharana’ was organised by Music Alliance Worldwide Foundation in association with Ustad Shahadat Hossain Khan Music Foundation and Aashish Khan School of World Music at the auditorium of Chhayanaut Shangskriti-Bhavan in Dhanmondi.


Artistes, including Shiraz Ali Khan, Afsana Khan, Rukhsana Khan,  Pran Gopal Bandopaddhay, Dwiptanil Bhattacharya and Sourabh  Goho performed at the event.

The founder of Music Alliance World Wide Foundation Mehjabeen Rahman delivered the inaugural speech of the event.

‘The MAWW Foundation began its journey 12 years ago to promote classical music among the youths. The foundation’s motto is to bridge the generational gap through music.  We are working to make a better and happier society,’ said Mehjabeen Rahman.

The event started with Indian musician Shourabh Goho presenting a solo tabla recital in the teen-taal.

Bangladeshi sarod player Parvez Rubel presented raag yaman accompanied by Rezaul Karim on violin and Sanjeev Majumder on tabla. 

Afsana Khan on sitar and Rukhsana Khan on sarod performed raga manj khamaj accompanied by Zakir Hosen and Sanjib Majumder on tabla.

Bangladeshi sarod player, Dwiptanil Bhattacharjee, performed raag rageshree accompanied by Indian musician Pran Gopal Bandopadhya on tabla.

Indian sarod player Shiraz Ali Khan presented alap and gat in raag bageshri while Mainak Biswas from India accompanied him on the tabla.

The event concluded with a collaborative performance by Shiraz Ali Khan on sarod, Afsana Khan on sitar and Rukhsana Khan on sarod. They were accompanied by Mainak Biswas and Sanjib Majumder on tabla.
