
The Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 on Monday sentenced Musabbir Rahim, assistant vice-president and head of Card Division of City Bank, to 26 years imprisonment in a graft case for allegedly embezzling Tk 2.50 crore between November 2015 to April 2016.
Judge Syed Arafat Hossain handed down the verdict and issued an arrest warrant against him as he is absconding.
In addition to 26 years imprisonment in four separate clauses of the Penal Code, 1860, the convict was also fined Tk 1.60 lakh, and 2 years more behind bars in total, in default of payment.
According to the case, from November 25, 2015 to April 24, 2016, more than Tk 2.5 crore was stolen from City Bank and its customers through forgery.
On August 18, 2016, the vice-president of the legal division of the bank鈥檚 head office AKM Ayub Ullah filed a case with the city鈥檚 Banani police station.
On December 31, 2017, ACC assistant director Monirul Islam pressed a charge sheet against Musabbir.
On August 25, 2019, the trial began. During the trial, 17 of the 21 witnesses testified.
