
An Indian citizen was arrested by Border Guard Bangladesh in Balarhat under Phulbari upazila on Saturday for illegally entering Bangladesh.
Following his arrest, the man was sent to Kurigram jail on Sunday as per court order.
The jailed Indian citizen was identified as Badol Mia, 27, son of Jahidul Mia from Natkobari Nayarhat village under Dinhata thana in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, India.
According to the police, Badol crossed the border illegally and entered about two kilometres into Bangladesh on Saturday night. He was wandering suspiciously in the Balarhat Bazar area of Naodanga union under Phulbari upazila.
After receiving information, members of the BGB from the Balarhat BOP camp arrested him.
Later, the Balarhat BGB filed a case under the Passport Act with the Phulbari police station and handed him over to the police.
Pran Krishna Debnath, officer-in-charge of Phulbari police station, said, ‘The Balarhat BGB has filed a case against the Indian citizen under the Passport Act for committing the crime of illegally entering Bangladesh. The Indian citizen has been sent to Kurigram jail as per court order on Sunday.’
