At least seven people were killed and 15 others injured in road accidents in Mymensingh, Bagerhat, Madaripur and Munshiganj districts on Saturday.  

Two people were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run autorickshaw in the Alalpur area of Mymensingh Sadar upazila, the United News of Bangladesh reported.


The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Kotwali Model Police Station officer-in-charge Main Uddin said that the injured were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The bus was seized, but the driver fled the scene, said the OC.

In another incident, three people were killed and another was injured as a truck driven by a teenage driver hit a three-wheeler on Khulna-Mongla highway in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat, the UNB reported.

The deceased were identified as Sayeed Morol, of Jhanjhania area of Rampal upazila, Azad Morol, of the same area and Mohammad Moni Mollik, of Gabbunia Kumlai village.

Mizanur Rahman Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Bagerhat’s Katakhali highway police, said two of the injured victims died on the way to a hospital.

The police seized the truck and arrested its driver, Safayet Hossain, 19, a resident of Chowgacha area of Jashore district.

A man was killed and 10 others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a pickup van on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Tantibari area under Sadar upazila in Madaripur, the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported. 

The deceased was identified as pickup van driver Sabuj Sardar, 60, a resident of Paonibhanga area under Hizla upazila in Barishal district.

The accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound pickup van collided head-on with a Barishal-bound passenger bus of ‘Hanif Paribahan’, leaving the pickup van driver dead on the spot, said Madaripur Fire Service Inspector Asadul Islam.

The injured were taken to Madaripur Zila Sadar Hospital, he said.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Munshiganj reported that a child was killed after two battery-run autorickshaws collided head-on at Madina Bazar area in Sadar upazila on Saturday.

Humaira Aktar, just one year old, tragically lost her life when she slipped from her mother’s lap. Her mother was standing by the roadside when she was hit by one of the autorickshaws.

Munshiganj Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam said that the autorickshaws were seized but drivers managed to flee the scene.Â
