Members of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police have arrested two people, including an author of children’s books, for their alleged involvement in child pornography.

The arrested are TIM Fakruzzaman alias Tipu Kibria, the mastermind of the gang, and his associate Md Kamrul Islam Sagar.

They were arrested in the capital’s Khilgaon area during a drive on Tuesday night, CTTC additional commissioner Md Asaduzzaman said at a press briefing on Wednesday at the DMP media centre in the city.

He said that about 2,500 pieces of pornography content and equipment were seized from them during the arrest.

The additional commissioner said that Tipu Kibria was involved in child pornography since 2005 and was arrested by the Criminal Investigative Department in 2014 in a case filed against him under the Pornography Act.

‘After being released from jail in 2021, he became busy with writing books, but again started child pornography under the cover of literary practice,’ he said.

During preliminary interrogation, Tipu Kibria said that he brought children from different parts of the Dhaka city, including Gulistan and Suhrawardy Udyan, impersonating a journalist and luring them with money.

CTTC additional commissioner Md Asaduzzaman also said that Tipu used to send videos to customers in Italy, Australia and Germany using encrypted apps after documenting photos and videos of targeted children.
