Singer Bappa Mazumder said that the songs in Dalchhut’s new album paid tribute to Sanjeeb Choudhury and depicted the band’s longing for its founding member.
In the ‘90s, poet-musician and journalist Sanjeeb Choudhury and Bappa Mazumder founded Dalchhut, which carved a niche for itself within a short time.
‘The members of Dolchhut have paid tribute to Sanjeeb Choudhury in our new album. We have named it “Sanjeeb”,’ said Dalchhut leader and vocalist Bappa Mazumder.
Sanjeeb Choudhury died in 2007 at the age of 42. After the death of Sanjeeb, Dalchhut released ‘Ay Amontron’ in 2010.
The band’s new album has been released after a 14-year hiatus. The album is available on Shadhin Music and it will be available on Spotify soon.
Besides, the album’s title track named ‘Sanjeeb Choudhury’ was released on Bappa’s official YouTube channel on Saturday and other tracks will be released on the platform gradually, said Bappa.
The album comprises 11 tracks, which have been written by Kabir Bakul, Zulfiqer Russell, Sheik Rana, Russell O’neil, Indraneel Chattopadhyay, Shahan Kabondho, Mas Masum and Dipan.
Bappa said, ‘There remains a feeling of emptiness among us after the death of Sanjeeb Choudhury. We love and miss him. The songs in the album will depict our deep longing for him.’
‘Among the tracks, two songs titled “Sanjeeb Choudhury” and “Duto Manush” are directly connected with him. Moreover, the music lovers will realise through the rest of the songs how much we miss him,’ said Bappa.
The singer mentioned that Dalchhut started working on the album in 2016. The band comprises Bappa Mazumder on vocals and lead guitar, Wahidur Rahman Masum on lead guitar, Sohel Aziz on keyboards, John Sutton Munshi on bass guitar and Sheikh Imran Ahmed Dano on drums.
‘We are very cautious when it comes to releasing albums from Dalchhut. We started working on this album in 2016. It took us eight years to complete it. Music lovers will find the signature style of the band in it,’ said Bappa.
While talking about the title track of the album, Bappa said that he had many memories of Sanjeeb on stage and the track depicted how he missed him now on the stage.
‘This album is very much related to my emotion as we are releasing it after 18 years of his death and we do not know whether we can release any more albums in future,’ ended Bappa.
