A student of Dhaka University on Monday drowned in the swimming pool of the university鈥檚 physical education centre.
The deceased was identified as Md Shohad Haque, 19, a first-year student of the department of Philosophy of the university.
Shohad was a resident of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall and also the class representative of his batch.
He died while bathing in the swimming pool of the university鈥檚 physical education centre at about 2:00pm.
However, the exact reason behind his death could not be confirmed immediately.
The body was kept at Dhaka medical college hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka medical college hospital police outpost, said that the student died while swimming.
鈥業t will be known after autopsy whether he died due to excessive water intake while drowning, stroke due to intense heat or some other reason,鈥� he added.
