
A fire broke out at a slum in Firingi Bazar area of Kotwali thana in Chattogram Monday afternoon.
On information, nine fire-fighting units from four stations – Agrabad, Chandanpora, Nondankakon and Lamar Bazar fire service and civil defence – rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control at about 2:20pm, said Dinomony Sharma, deputy director of fire service and civil defence in the port city.
Originated from an electric short circuit in a four-storey building, the blaze started at about 1:20pm, he added.
However, the fire was doused completely at about 4:00pm and no casualties were reported.
According to the fire service, a temple was burnt slightly and several semi-pucca houses were destroyed in the fire.
The full extent of the damage, caused by the fire, was yet to be calculated.
