
At least 11 people, including three of a family, were killed and 23 others were injured in road accidents in Mymensingh, Chattogram and Munshiganj districts on Tuesday.
Of them, eight were killed in Mymensingh, two in Chattogram and one was killed in Munshiganj district.
United News of Bangladesh reported that eight people, including three of a family, were killed and 10 others were injured in four road crashes at Montola area on the Mymensingh-Jamalpur highway, at Trishal on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and on the Trishal-Nandinail road and at Tarakanda upazila in Mymensingh.
Seven of the deceased are identified as Lutfar Rahman, 30, his wife Shahnaz, 25, and son Mahit, 2, residents of the Dighirpar area under Jhenaidagati upazila in Sherpur district, Maruf, 18, from Ishwarganj, Apple Mia, 30, from Nandinail, Nasima Akhter, 35, from the village of Kazipara under Trishal upazila and Abul Bashar, 60, Trishal Police Station inspector (investigation) Chand Mia said.
Police and locals said that four members of a family, who were passengers of a Mahendra bus heading towards Tangail, were injured when the bus hit a CNG-run auto rickshaw in the Montola area under Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning.
Locals rushed the injured to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Mahit dead.
Later in the afternoon, Lutfar and Shahnaz died while undergoing treatment.
Lutfar and Shahnaz鈥檚 another son Mojahid, 6, was injured in the incident.
The couple used to work at a garment factory in the Master Bari area of Bhaluka and they were going to home to celebrate eid with their family members in their ancestral home.
In a separate incident, two people, Maruf and Apple, died on the spot when a pickup van carrying passengers was taking a U-turn and was hit by a bus coming from the opposite direction in front of a CNG pump in the Darirampur area of Trishal on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
In another accident in the afternoon, two auto rickshaw passengers including Nasima died when a bus ran over them in Balipara, Trishal on the Trishal-Nandinail road, said Trishal Police Station inspector (investigation) Chand Mia.
On the other hand, Abul Bashar was died after being hit by a bus in Tarakanda Upazila in the morning, said Wazed Ali, officer-in-charge of Tarakanda Upazila.
UNB also reported that two people were killed and 12 others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram on Tuesday morning.
One of the deceased was identified as bus driver Nurun Nabi Shimul, 24 of Gonu Hafez's house in Sonagazi upazila of Feni district.
A motorcyclist died on the spot and a pillion rider was injured after the motorcycle hit the median of the Jatir Pita Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman expressway, popularly known as Dhaka-Mawa expressway, at Srinagar upazila in Munshiganj on Tuesday morning.聽
The deceased is identified as Md Asad, 44, son of Md Hasan from Rampal upazila in Bagerhat.
Hasara highway police station duty officer Md Rashed said that the incident took place at about 6:00am at Sholghar area.
