An eight-year-old boy died after he was crushed between two buses near Sergeant Ahad Police Box in Gulistan area of Bangladesh capital Dhaka Thursday afternoon.
The deceased, Mohammad Sumon, used to sell books including prayer books.
He hailed from Sherpur.
The accident took place at about 3:30pm when Sumon was standing behind a bus while he was selling books, said Atis Kumar Biswas, sub-inspector of the Paltan police station.
At one point, a speeding BRTC double-decker hit him in front of the mosque near Ahad Police Box and crushed him against the rear of the other bus, leaving him critically injured, he said.
‘We rushed him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital emergency ward where the doctor on duty declared him dead at about 4:45pm,’ the sub-inspector said.
He said that police seized the BRTC bus but the driver fled the scene.
The body was kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy, added the police official.
