Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh Dr Abdelouahab Saidani on Saturday highlighted the growing partnership with Bangladesh and reiterated his country’s commitment to expanding collaboration across diverse sectors.

‘The establishment of the Algeria-Bangladesh Business Forum and the exchange of economic delegations reflect our growing partnership and shared vision for sustainable development,’ he said while commemorating the 63rd anniversary of Algerian Independence Day, observed each year on July 5.

Home affairs adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury joined the reception as the chief guest.

Director General (Africa wing), Ministry of Foreign Affairs BM Jamal Hossain and President of the Algeria–Bangladesh Business Forum Nurul Mostafa, were, among others, present.

The Ambassador also said plans for high-level visits in the near future ‘further underscore’ their commitment to expanding collaboration across diverse sectors.

Since 1971, Bangladesh and Algeria have enjoyed longstanding diplomatic relations, grounded in mutual respect and solidarity, said the Algerian envoy.

‘Algeria proudly holds the distinction of being the first Arab country to recognise Bangladesh, standing by its side during pivotal moments and supporting its integration into the international community,’ Ambassador Saidani said adding that the two nations continue to cooperate on global platforms in pursuit of peace, multilateralism, and a more just international order.

The Ambassador said as they honour the 63rd anniversary of Algerian independence, they celebrate the freedom, strength, and resilience of the Algerian people. ‘May this cherished occasion deepen the friendship between our two nations and inspire continued progress,’ he said.

Ambassador Saidani said this historic day stands as a powerful symbol of resilience and victory, marking the end of 132 years of colonial rule under France.

He said the liberation of Algeria, achieved after nearly eight years of armed resistance from 1954 to 1962, represents a pivotal moment not only for Algeria but also for global struggles for freedom.

‘Today’s celebration is made even more meaningful as we also observe Algerian Youth Day—an intentional and profound tribute to the nation’s young people, whose courage and aspirations continue to shape Algeria’s future,’ said the Ambassador.

There was a cultural segment where Bangladesh Scouts, including Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, performed patriotic songs and dances.

Members of the cultural community also participated, highlighting the shared spirit of solidarity.
