The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh has awarded 46 organisations in 17 categories for their best corporate practices based on financial parameters and non-financial indicators.

The winners of the ICMAB Best Corporate Awards received gold, silver and bronze awards.

Finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed handed over the awards to the winners at an event held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital Dhaka on Thursday.

Special guests included commerce adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin, commerce secretary Md Selim Uddin and National Board of Revenue chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan.

Salehuddin Ahmed, in his speech, said that the government inherited a hard situation and big challenges, especially in the financial sector.

‘Even after reducing taxes and duties, prices of essentials are not decreasing. Existing bad systems in different stages of production is to be blamed for that,’ he said.

He said that the problems were solvable, adding, ‘We need transparency and accountability to address the challenges. The cost and management accountants have a huge role to play in this.’

Sheikh Bashir Uddin said that the council of advisers was sincere in serving the country and assured continuous efforts to build a better business friendly environment in the country.

Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, president of ICMAB, said that the country lacked in preparing professional accountants to meet the demand that a trillion dollar economy required.

‘I think we have a lot of work to do with the government to build a better Bangladesh and take a collaborative approach to get our contributions recognised,’ he said.

A jury board, chaired by Mohammed Farashuddin, former Bangladesh Bank Governor, reviewed and approved the final list of awardees, which was prepared by 45 evaluation experts from ICMAB.
