Max Group inaugurated its autoclaved aerated concrete blocks and panels factory Maxcrete on Thursday.
Maxcrete constructed the AAC block manufacturing unit at Jagir in Manikganj with an initial investment of about Tk 160 crore.
The factory has the capacity to produce 1,000 cubic metres of AAC blocks a day.
Housing and public works minister RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury said that the trend of using blocks instead of the traditional bricks was rising for the sake of environment.
‘The materials we use currently are not suitable to decrease carbon emission. As the concrete blocks pollute the environment much less than the traditional bricks, we should increase using blocks,’ he said.
Ghulam Mohammed Alomgir, chairman of Max Group, said, AAC blocks were completely different from ordinary clay fired bricks and hollow bricks.
They are lightweight, prefabricated, and green building material that is well admired as the eco-friendliest substitution for toxic clay-based bricks, he said.
