A nine-day theatre festival organised by cultural affairs ministry titled July Punarjagaran Natyotsab 2025 is under way at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.

The festival inaugurated on July 31 comprises 11 theatre productions on the July uprising which toppled the authoritarian regime of Sheikh Hasina on August 5.   


On the opening day, Team Colors premiered a play titled ‘Re-Revolt’ conceptualised and directed by Nayla Azad at the main auditorium of the National Theatre Hall of the BSA.

Theatre troupe Teerondaz Repertory also premiered a play titled Shuvonkar Haat Dharte Cheyechilo written by Rizu Luxmi Aboroadh and directed by Deepak Suman at the main auditorium on Friday while Manikganj based-theatre troupe Spandan Theatre Circle staged Deyal Janey Shob written and directed by Shakil Ahmed Sonet at the experimental theatre hall of the BSA.

On Saturday, Chittagong University-based theatre troupe Ethora staged ‘Droher Rakta-kadam’ written and directed by Era Ahmed at the main auditorium of the National Theatre Hall.

On the fourth day of the festival, the theatre department of Tagore University of Creative Arts will premiere George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm adapted and directed by Sydur Rahman Lipon at the main auditorium of the National Theatre Hall of the BSA.

Eleven theatre troupes received Tk 6,00,000 as primary budget for the productions from the ministry.

The festival will end on August 8, with the premiere of Aguni by theatre troupe Together We Can which is written and directed by Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed.
