Theatre troupe Bahubachan staged the 38th show of its production titled Aniket Sandhya at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka on Monday.
The play, written by Chandan Sen and directed by Ahram Alo, was staged to mark the 54th founding anniversary of the troupe.
Aniket Sandhya portrays a retired person’s facing mental pressure and choosing an old age home due to the consideration of the age a curse in society.
The play revolves around an 87-year-old singer-composer Mukherjee who lives with his 61-year-old widower son Karnadev, grandson and grand daughter-in-law.
Mukherjee finds himself isolated and neglected by everyone in his family. One day Mukherjee’s grandson and grand daughter-in-law decide to send him to an old age home, and the play moves forward.
Md Anis ud dowla, Toufiqur Rahman, Arham Alo, Rumana, Adib, Feroz, Ayesha, Monu Masud, among others, have portrayed different roles in the play.
‘As old age is considered a curse in our society, we have been staging the play to make people aware of the importance of the elderly people in society,’ said Ahram Alo, director of Bahubachan.
An octogenarian actor Md Anis ud dowla has portrayed the character of Mukherjee while Toufiqur Rahman has played the role of Karnadev in the play.
Toufiqur, also production manager of the play, said that they would like to promote coexistence instead of discrimination in the family. ‘Worth it is mentioning that Anis ud dowla has been receiving acclaim for his portrayal in the production.’
