
To mark the 76th anniversary of the birth of Humayun Ahmed, theatre troupe Bahubachan will stage a play titled ‘Ami Ebong Amra’ at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today.
The play, based on a book with the same name under Humayun Ahmed’s Misir Ali series, has been dramatised by Monu Masud and directed by Arham Alo.
The story of the play is based on a transgender person named Tonmoy. His parents get separated in his childhood. His mother tries to kill him but he survives. Later, he decides to kill individuals who become aware of his gender identity.
Misir Ali guides him to live a normal life.
‘Bahubachan produced three stage plays based on Humayun Ahmed's works and we pay tribute to his life and works through this show,’ said Toufikur Rahman, team leader of Bahubachan, who also played the character of Misir Ali in the play.
Born on November 13, 1948 at Kutubpur, Netrakona, Humayun Ahmed was one a novelist, lyricist, academic, playwright and filmmaker.
Humayun Ahmed passed away at the Bellevue Hospital in New York City, USA on July 19, 2012.
