A protest rally organised by Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation on Friday was disrupted by a counter-protest in front of the National Theatre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The BGTF staged the protest against the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s decision of stopping the Desh Natok production Nityapuran’s show for security concerns.
During the speech of theatre activist Mamunur Rashid, some miscreants threw stones and eggs at the protest rally, alleged the BGTF secretary general Kamal Bayazid.
‘A group of people threw stones and eggs at our rally then theatre workers tried to catch them. After half an hour they returned in a big group of approximately 50 to 60 persons and said that they will protest against theatre shows if any collaborator of the fascist government organise,’ said Kamal Bayazid, adding that the police and army were protecting theatre activists but did not take any legal action against them who introduced them as members of the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement.  Â
Mentioning that none was injured in the incident, Kamal Bayazid said, ‘It’s an insult for theatre activists that someone hampered a protest rally.’
The BGTF called a press conference this morning regarding the issues at the Seminar Hall of BSA. Â
