
Theatre troupe Aranyak Natyadal compared money launderers to Robert Clive in its new production titled ‘Company’.
The play, written and directed by Mamunur Rashid, is the 66th production of the troupe.
Mamunur Rashid played the character of a money launderer businessman named Selim in the play, which was staged at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy from Eid day to Pahela Baishakh.
The play mentions that corrupt officials, politicians and businessmen are looting the people of Bangladesh and buying luxurious homes in Canada, Malaysia and Singapore. It depicts that money launderers are successors of Robert Clive who looted a huge amount of wealth from Bengal after defeating Siraj ud-Daulah.
The play also gives the audience a glimpse into the life of Robert Clive and ends with Selim inaugurating a sculpture of Clive.
The stage was designed by Faiz Zahir while lighting was designed by Thandu Raihan and the music was designed by Parimal Majumdar. The costumes and props were designed by Hasim Masud for the play.Â
Shahran Khan, Sujat Shimul, Shajjad Shaju, Surovi Roy, Mamunur Rashid and other members of Aranyak Natyadal played different characters in the play.
