
Arnob Saha and Soumyia Akter clinched the men’s and women’s singles titles of the week-long MTB Mymensingh Divisional Tennis Tournament that ended at the Mymensingh Club on Friday. ÌýÌý
Arnob beat Tanvir Pasha by 7-5, 6-2 sets, while Soumyia defeated Subarna Khatun by 6-3, 6-0 sets in their respective singles finals.
Soumyia also secured the women’s doubles title, partnering with Susmita Sen to beat Subarna and Halima Jahan pair by 7-5, 6-2 sets in the final.
Rustom Ali and Milon Hossain pair clinched the men’s doubles title with a 7-6, 6-1 set win over Biplob Ram and Shown Pasha pair in the final.
In the three age category finals of the senior men’s doubles events, Jami and Akash pair beat Jahid and Tasib pair by 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 sets in the 30 plus final; Rubel and Rafikul pair beat Towhidur and Milon pair by 6-3, 6-3 sets in the 45 plus final and Anwarul and Zakir pair beat Setu and Khan pair by 6-4, 6-4 sets in the 55 plus final. A total of 337 players, divided into open and senior sections, competed in the tournament, jointly organised by the Bangladesh Tennis Federation and the Mymensingh Club and sponsored by Mutual Trust Bank PLC.
Players from 21 sports organisations — Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, Police Club, American Club, National Tennis Complex, Dhanmondi Sporting Club, Army Officers’ Club, Navy Club, International Club, Madaripur Tennis Club, German Club, Brahmanbaria District Sports Association, Masa Tennis Academy, Nordic Club, Pro Tennis Academy Dhaka, Gopalganj Tennis Club, Thakurgaon Station Club, Khulna Club, Jhalokati Tennis Club, Rajshahi’s Advocate Abdus Salam Tennis Complex, District Tennis Club Magura, Dhaka Officers’ Club — and several other players from Dhaka and Mymensingh Division took part in the tournament, offered open section winners a purse of Tk 281,000 as prize money.
Deputy commissioner and district magistrate of Mymensingh Mofidul Alam distributed the prizes among the winners as the chief guest.
The additional deputy commissioner for Development and Human Resource Management in Mymensingh, Asaduzzaman, presided over the closing ceremony.
Bangladesh Tennis Federation general secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Curren, BTF vice-president Ashrafuzzaman Khan Puton and Abdul Mannan, deputy managing director and head of branch banking division of MTB, were present on the occasion among others.
