Environment, forest and climate change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said on Tuesday that Germany would provide Bangladesh with one billion euro for renewable energy over the next ten years.

Of them, 15 million will be released this year and the nations will promote knowledge exchange and cooperation with non-state actors such as the private sector, research institutes, academia, and civil society, said a press release.

After her meeting held at the secretariat with German ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tröster, the adviser said that the collaboration would also involve small national minorities, women, and youths, fostering a multi-stakeholder approach.

She thanked the ambassador for Germany’s continued support for environmental and climate issues.

She emphasised the need for increased international cooperation in addressing global climate challenges and the importance of sustainable forest management.

Expressing Germany’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh in its fight against climate change, Tröster appreciated government’s efforts in protecting the environment.

During the meeting, both sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation on environmental protection, river cleaning projects and climate change mitigation.

The discussion included potential collaboration on sustainable development projects, green technology adoption, for tackling environmental and climate-related challenges.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to explore further avenues for collaboration, particularly in technology transfer and environmental sustainability projects.
