
The police have arrested 13 more leaders and activists of Awami League, activities of which are banned, and its affiliated organisations from different parts of the capital.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police鈥檚 Detective Branch arrested them during raids between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, said its press release issued on Tuesday.
They were arrested for their alleged involvement in deteriorating the law and order situation by bringing out anti-government flash processions in different parts of the capital, according to the release.
Such processions are being brought out frequently by AL and its affiliates at different places across the capital city.
The arrested included AL central executive committee member Muhammad Anisur Rahman, former chairman of Bankra union of Jhikargachha upazila of Jashore district and local AL leader Mohammad Nisar Ali, Barguna district鈥檚 Amtoli upazila women wing of AL president Nusrat Jahan Lima, and Dhaka University Sir AF Rahman Hall鈥檚 former organising secretary of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League and president of the Muktijuddho Mancha central committee ASM Al Sonet.
The arrestees have been accused in multiple cases on specific charges, said the press release.
In May this year, the interim government has suspended activities of Awami League until the completion of the trials of its leaders over atrocities during the聽 July uprising that ousted the authoritarian AL regime on August 5 past year.
On October 23 past year, the interim government banned BCL under the Anti-Terrorism Act on the allegations of its involvement in breaching public security in various ways in the past 15 years.
